Committees

We welcome members from any program who wish to provide input or offer their services to assist in running the club. If you are interested in being part of one of the committees listed, contact the chair of that committee. Executive Committee The Board of Directors has struck a Committee of the Board that consists of Directors who will form the Executive of the Board. This is a common structure in not-for-profit and private organizations. Usually, it consists of the President of the Corporation, Vice-President(s) and a limited number of other Officers of the Corporation. Read more... Rowing Committee Tibor Kovacs (Captain), Jim Mercer (Vice Captain), Celena Boyle (Interim Head Coach), Lynda Dundas (Safety), Cynthia Drewry (Boat Storage), Fred Loek, Dan Lebl, Cori Simms, Gilda Wainwright.  The Rowing Committee advises and assists the Captain and Head coach in the selection and training of all crews. The Committee is responsible for all matters pertaining to boat acquisition, fleet maintenance, safety and developing crews. Finance Committee Don Steele (treasurer) The Finance Committee assists the treasurer with preparing budgets and managing the finances of the Club as well as preparing the annual financial report. Membership Committee Cynthia Drewry (chair), Jane Breitman (vice-chair), Cori Simms The Membership Committee welcomes new members to the club, answers questions and maintains records.. This committee assumes responsibility for the annual Open House and will be looking for volunteers to help out with this event. House Committee Jim Mercer (chair) The house committee is responsible for organizing the maintenance of our club facilities. This includes repairs, cleaning and scheduling of club facilities such as the tank and Pogue Room. If you have knowledge of building & maintenance systems and fit somewhere between 'handy' and 'skilled tradesman' or contractor please offer your services. Nomination Committee Vacant The Nomination Committee is responsible for seeking nominations for Board Directorships as they become vacant. They will present the nominees for positions at the Annual Meeting of members. Bingo Committee The Bingo Committee is responsible for organizing the rotation of members to participate in our bingo arrangement with Delta Bingo. Members help with phoning and ensuring our commitments are met. Bingo proceeds are a significant source of revenue for the club, ensuring to keep fees as low as possible. However, it is also a strictly regulated gambling environment something we cannot afford to take lightly! Please ensure you make and keep your Bingo commitments. Fundraising Committee Margerhita Braga The Fund Raising Committee is tasked with planning and organizing all methods for increasing revenues for the Club through special events, fund raising campaigns and for soliciting funds or bequests from donors. There is a 3-point plan for fund-raising: 1. member-based activities, events and merchandise sales 2. corporate-based campaign and corporate rowing 3. community-based through granting organizations and service clubs Member-based events will generally have a rowing or a social focus to them. Current projects underway include: Tops & Bottoms Regatta; sale of t-shirts, sweatshirts, unisuits and jackets; and a marketing presentation and strategies is under development in order to pursue the both the corporate sector and service clubs. Volunteers are needed to support all of these endeavours. Successful fund-raising means maintaining membership fees at the lowest possible level while ensuring the programs and equipment we need. Communications Committee Duncan Cameron (chair), Dan Lebl (webmaster) This committee is exploring ways to improve communication between the Board, the members and the community. We hope to improve our web site and provide easy access to necessary information regarding programs, training programs, coaches, regattas, results, fund raising and social events. Beyond the web-site initiative, the committee will look at different communications vehicles and determine how to best use them to carry our messages, establish relationships so that we can interact with our community, use the media more effectively, and enhance government and funder relations. If you have experience with communications, marketing, public affairs, media relations, making presentations, professional writing, graphic design this committee needs you! Social Committee Vacant The Social Committee is responsible for all the fun things such as the Captain's Dinner, parties and barbeques that the members may wish to have including helping organize the Tops and Bottoms Regatta.
