Henley 2010 Day 5 - 4 Finals - 1 Gold (+ Dash 3rd)
Another day of excitment for Don's at the Henley course in St. Catharines today
The 5th day of henley, the day of the Dash's, also the Don Rowing Club in action
Briefly daily back-view
Heat: Dash Women 1x - Colleen
Colleen is back to the Doin Rowing Club, after years of being in school - the first initial fire is back and Colleen is back in the single to DASH. She started in her heat fast and could seperate from the field ... 450 long meters, pain in every muscle, pain in her eyes, seeing the other girls moving up ... last strokes into the finish line ... an early sound ... and then Colleen finish TROET, half a second to late ... good start in the fall season ... hope to see you back soon on the Credit River
Heat: DASH light Men 8+
Our fresh men crew (including John from the Masters) - training since 3 month - trying to get some fitness and some technique under their belt ... and all finishes this year in this DASH race. And our boys sprinted out ... hellfire burning in water and the fuel is burned down as quick as the eyes can bling ... 300m gone and the fatigue is winning, in every brain the small devil shows up and talks ... and the boys listen ... 5th st the end ... no final in the afternoon, but good hearted and with a new expierence the fall season can come
Exhibition Race - Jane and Emily
Rowing Canada send 2 2x against a stron US sculling team and Jane and Emily have to fight for honor and qualification. They placed 4th finally ... one step clever
Semi-Final: U19 Junior Women 4x - Alyx, Katie, Isabella and Stephanie
After yesterdays Heat today the Semi's. Our 4 girls showed a brave yesterday and today ... again ... Katie and Alyx stroking the 4x clean and with responsibility down the course and can secure the Final for tomorrow. A big success for Stephanie, she started this year at the Don Rowing Club and will start tomorrow in one of the biggest rowing events in North America.
Congrats to the girls and a good race tomorrow
Semi-Final: U17 Junior Men 4+ - Stephan, Colin, Matt, Maggie and Liam
Yesterday a race with courage and love and today the fight for honor. Our boys well prepared, our boys in good knowledge waht will happen and our boys on their way. Painful for the coaches, sitting on land and helpless ... no bullhorn to help, no motorboat to stop making them crazy things ... just them and us. The boys fight ... 3rd, 4th, 3rd and 4th ... tight and tighter going to the finish line, but ... no ... 4th, the 3rd place out of reach finally. We as their coaches are proud to have selected this crew. All of them came from different backgrounds into this boat and all of them succeed. A (probably horrible race for the boys) but a good developing race for the coaches. Thank you
Semi-Final: U23 Women 1x - Natasha
Our chicken from Winnipeg. She is the girl. She used every second on the Credit River to develop. Every moment in her heat ... she goes into this semi-final, aware of the force with will try to smash her. Natasha "unbekuemmert" out of the blocks and raced down the course ... still her arms a little bit to early, still her lay back a little bit to crunshy, but a race ... and we can see that her body position becomes better and and and ... we hope that Natasha will take all those small advises she got in the past wekks, month and will develop ... Thanks for the summer with you
Semi-Final: U17 Junior Men 2x - Kieran and Patrick
Both boys come together in circumstances out of the blue and the decision has been made, that both will stay together. Outside interferance made a clear decision of the U17 2x for the Don Rowing Club impossible, so that Kieran and Patrick, because several reason will be train and compete together. The early results showed their potential but also raises questions in the coaches minds. Kieran and Patrick developed into the rowing sport as high competitve rowers and helped the crews to succeed.
With doubts and hopes the sochaing team looked into the semi-final of the boys. As good prepared as possible the boys started in the race but could never keep up with their opponents. After the fantastic 4x final a few days ago, both could not reach the qualification spot for the final tomorrow. The dissapointment of boys boys has been big but unnessassary. Both accomblished a fantastic season and their qualification as a 2x for the "Sudbury-Games" in a few days makes us proud to have them in our team. Thanks for your season and this good Henley for you in 2010
Semi-Final: Champ Men 1x - Silvan Zehnder
Our swiss member and winner of last years Boston 4+ started here for the Don Rowing Club in the Champ men's 1x. Yesterday he pushed a few heavies out and today his fight for going into the final to face Malcom. Silvan fighted bravly, but this time the heavies are more cautions and but a little bit more distance between themself and Silvan. Silvan sprinted into the finish ... but 4th. A good representative for the DRC and thank you for being at Don's for this summer
FINALS SATURDAY 7th AUGUST 2010
Senior Women 4- - Elene, Claire, Caro and Marisha
Prepared for this race, the boat newly rigged and then into the start-box. Elene sprints out of the box and leads her crew into the lead ... further and further ... 1000m gone and 1/2 length infront of St. Catharines - the main opponent in this game. A long way to go and our girls are fighting ... fighting ....
30min later ... tears ... everything have been giving ... but lost everything in the last meters of the race ... 3rd finally and a new start has to be done ... all given, the right thing done and now ... new work
Senior Men 2- - Dan and Gurpreet
A tough race. Only skilled strong boys at in the starting gate and Dan in his first race ... in first race alone and responsible for his crew. And Dan did a great job. Stroking in 36 ... 36 ... 36 ... down the course, in the pack of the field ... then finally 6th. A good race and a lot of answers of why. Thanks for both for your winter training and showing the path for all of the lightweights how to do it.
Senior Women light 4- - Lauren, Jenn, Kate and Laura
Gold yesterday ... Gold today? And our girls showed the leading position of Don girls in the lightweight women sweep team at this regatta. After 1000m a compfy position and still in power of reaction ... Laura and Kate infront of their Gold medal ... nervous in the last 300m but then the saving sound and the DRC with his second Gold of Henley.
Thanks for this race and tomorrow good luck in your 4x
U19 Junior Women 2- - Alyxandra and Isabella
In their first year of U19 and facing in the future more the lightweight section then the heavy weights ... our girls made the final. Both are looking to Anna I. their personal favorits and girl to go after ... and the starting light turn green ... A battle, Isa's back is bending, the oarlocks are cracking and stroke by stroke our girls holding position with Anna ... cracking also in the other boats ... 400m gone and cracking of an oarlock ... not in our boat ... the oarlock is brocken ... the umpires are stopping the race ... everybody in pain and question mark ... the the call back. Everybody back into the starting boxes ... and the same again. Isabella and Alyx on their second way ... following this time Anna and eingestehen that she is the better girl today ... of course the rest of the field also fight and our girls finally finished 5th. A good performance after their first appearance at the small boat junior trials in April ... a strong developed rowing style and still ... our girls have a purple stroke coach. Well done and tomorrow the 4x final
DASH 4 CASH - mixed 8+ - Margie, Silvan, Caro, Jen, Mustafa, Peter, Mike, Elene and Claire
The last race of this day ... the DASH in a mixed combination. The Don Rowing Club used this opportunity to include their guests into the DRC boat. Silvan (Switzerland) and Mustafa (Eygpt) came in our boat and put themself into the race against Canada, US and Scottland. 8 boats fighting in this unique event for glory and a big donation towards a charity organisation. Our crew started well but Boston and a combined combination from the NIagara region passed us by centimeters ... 3rd in this race and a time below 1min18sc ... fantastic performace and another unique moment for our club to share the joy of rowing
Thanks to the team!
