Masters Competitive Rowing

The Masters Competitive program is geared toward rowers (aged 25 and older) who have rowed in the Recreation and Fitness program or have previous competitiverowing experience. This program runs year round and is geared towards individuals that want to compete in the sport of rowing. This program requires a large commitment to training, and rowers are expected to attend a minimum three training sessions per week. The prgram is divided into three levels:

  • Level 1 - trains 3x/week, this group introduces athletes to the competitive side of rowing, with emphasis on skill development. 
  • Level 2 - trains 3-6x/week, after completing a minimum of one season in Level 1 an athlete may progress to Level 2, this group compunds on skills developed and introduces higher training volume and commitment.
  • Level 3 - trains 6-10x/week, only athletes with Coach approval may train in the Level 3 group, this group is geared towards athletes that want to take their competitive rowing to the next level!

During the Spring, Summer and Fall months (typically start of April to end of October) training will be outside when weather permits. During the Winter months (November to end of March) training will be inside at the rowing club.

All Levels of the Master Competitive program race at numerous regattas throught the year:

  • Fall regattas include: 

Head of the Welland, Head of the Trent, Head of the Charles

  • Winter ergattas include:

Canadian Indoor Rowing Championships, Ontario Indoor Rowing Championships

  • Summer Regattas include: 

Canada Day Regatta, Tony Biernacki Regatta, RowOntario Masters Regatta, Masters Royal Canadaian Henley Regatta

This program also holds a "Spring Training Camp" in February/March to help develop rowing skills and fitness. Past training camps have been held in Tempe, Arizona & Dallas, Texas.


MASTERS COMPETITIVE ROWING

  • Training Times:

Level 1 - Tues & Thurs from 5-7am & Sat from 7-9am. 
Level 2 - Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri from 5-7am & Sat from 7-9am. 
Level 3 - Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri from 5-7am and 6-8pm & Sat from 7-9am.

  • Full Year Membership:

April 1, 2016 to March 31, 2017 - $1,015 + HST & Three (2) Bingo Sessions

  • Half Year Membership:

September 1, 2016 to March 31, 2017 - $495 + HST & One (1) Bingo Session


Ready to Register:

Before you register, remember that rowing is a water sport so you must be able to swim. All participants must hold a 'Swim To Survive' certificate or equivalent (roll into deep water, tread water for 1minute, swim 50 metres). You do not have to produce the certificate. However, when registering with Rowing Canada you will be signing a waiver declaring that you are capable of swimming and treading water. If you are not a strong swimmer and are unsure of your swimming ability, we recommend that you schedule a test at a local Mississauga swimming pool. 

There are two steps to registering at the Don Rowing Club:

1. Register with the Don Rowing Club on ClubWorks

To register, click on the "ClubWorks Club Membership" button in the top-right corner of this page. Create an account, and then purchase the appropriate 'package' for the session of your choice.

 2. Register with Rowing Canada

After the payment has been made on ClubWorks for your desired session, please proceed to the Rowing Canada wesbite (using the link below) to register with Rowing Canada and be added to our insurance policy - there is no aditional cost for this step.
