Bernard Stomporowski appointed Head Coach of the Don Rowing Club of Mississauga
We are very pleased to announce that Bernhard Stomporowski has been appointed our full time year-round Head Coach effective immediately. He comes to us with a wealth of experience and expertise gained from working at the highest levels in Germany and Switzerland.
He will provide us with leadership in coaching services across all our rowing programs. His background is rich in rowing competitively, coaching and club management.
Bernhard started to achieve success at the national level at the age of 17 and then at the world championships in the late eighties and nineties. This all culminated in competing in a lightweight four for Germany at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996. To date, he is the most successful lightweight in the German Rowing Federation's history.
His coaching experience started in Berlin where he coached at the Ruderklub am Wannsee and for the German Rowing Federation at the World Cup regatta in 2001 in Munich. In Switzerland in 2002, he coached successful crews at the Swiss championships, the Coupe de Jeunesse and the World U 23 championships in the early part of this decade and was the Head Coach of the prominent Seeclub in Zurich.
He has lectured in rowing techniques, with an emphasis on lightweights. He has the highest coaching certification in Germany and has recently graduated from a 3 year high performance rowing program at the Trainerakademie in Cologne.
Bernhard has two three year old twin boys Kiro and Caspar. Their mother is Katrin Rutschow-Stomporowski, Olympic Champion 1996 and 2004 and Olympic bronze medallist 2000.
