Competitive Rowing
|
The competitive program at the DRC is considered to be a high
performance category of rowing. To compete at this level requires a year-round commitment, with six training sessions
each week during the winter. During the summer racing season, twelve to fourteen workouts can be common. The
competitive program is for individuals 16 years of age and older. Whether junior, intermediate, senior or masters,
DRC oarswomen and oarsmen have always been a strong presence in Ontario.

Some can't stop it, others start late in life. This program provides mature athletes (age 27 and over) with the opportunity to retain their
competitive edge. Master rowers compete against each other in events and age categories designated by the international rowing federation (F.I.S.A.).
In order to participate, you must have previous rowing experience, be able to withstand the physical demands of regular workouts and make a
dependable commitment for early morning (5 – 7 a.m.) practices and weekend regattas.

Recreational Rowing
There is life without competitive rowing. Rowing just for the fun of it, or with maybe only a hint of competition, is being discovered by
more and more people. Our recreational program keeps growing and growing. To join this program you must be at least 16 years old and have
prior rowing experience, or have passed the "Learn to Row" program at Dons or another club.
| Annual Fee: $489 (plus 2 Bingos)
| Recreational rowers meet four times each week. Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:00 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays at 9:00 a.m. Crews are set on a casual basis, in any combination that will work in eights, fours, doubles and singles.
Recreational members also have the opportunity to attend two or three regattas during the year. Some of the events our members have competed include our own Tops and Bottoms Regatta, Hogtown Heats, and several head races such as Head of the Trent and Head of the Thames.

Coxswains
Rowers value a good coxswain highly. Being in control of 2000 pounds of carbon fibre, wood, aluminum and flesh and bone
requires self-confidence, a quick mind and alertness. On the Credit River, a good visual imprint of a canoe or kayak
is also indispensible. This membership is for any person who commits exclusively to coxing in competitive, masters
or recreational programs. Annual Fee: $75 (plus two Bingos)
